Latest news December 17th 2009: The past weeks I took part in the G1 Course through the PawAcademy of Pawpeds and passed! De G1 course is an excellent way for both catlovers and (starting) breeders to learn more about cats. May 30th: Kittenshow in Harmelen; Desert got U1 (out of four lovely girls), just missed the NOM. Max got U1 and did make it to the BIS election, however didn't win in the end :-) Congrats Nadine & Stijn! May 31st: Pukkel (Quanta) had a HCM scan today in Emmeloord and was declared 100 % healthy again! At the BCF show in St Job in 't Goor in Belgium August 29th, Colorado, Desert and Wynona will be present. The Neocat show in Nijmegen on September 29th will be the first show for Vanilla Orchid. Just a little short of 6 months she will appear in the 3 to 6 month class. Also Desert and Wynona will be present. Off the kittens from Magic and Ice only Pepper is still looking for a new loving home (only as pet)!

 

Welcome to the website of Maine Coon Cattery Gigas Mitis!

 

Gigas Mitis is a small cattery located in Almere, The Netherlands. Gigas Mitis is Latin and means gentle giant, and I can't think of a better description for this wonderful breed!

 

After being surrounded by cats my whole life, on the internet I stumbled upon the planning of a cattery in Friesland with 2 beautiful red Coons. Out of this combination, a litter of three was born of which Kyran and Ko-Ko ended up living with me.

 

This was also the moment I got infected with the famous "Maine Coon Virus"... And it's true, once you own a Coon, you'll want to have another one, and another one, and ... Luckily there’s enough space in and around the house, and in my heart, for yet another addition to the Coon family :-)

 

I have always had a predilection for red cats, although nowadays I'm learning to appreciate the diluted and silver coats as well.

 

When Quanta came she most definitely stood out from all the reds, great to watch though! With the arrival of Magic, my wish list was again partly completed, but I'm sure I will get greedy once more very soon, not in the least because in every litter born you have that very special kitten :-)

Additions to the "catfamily" were made by Colorado Kid from my first litter, Painted Desert from the second and Vanilla Orchid from the third.

 

I would like to describe Gigas Mitis as: small, primarily aiming for health and character, but surely not losing sight of the (show) standard.
